Originally founded in 1929, Ferrari is perhaps most famous for its motor racing success, especially in Formula One, and did not actually produce road-legal GT vehicles until 1947 before progressing into the true supercar league in the early 60’s. V6 and V8 models account for over half of Ferrari’s total production – in both front-engine and mid-engine versions – whilst V12-powered models such as the Berlinetta Boxer and Testarossa added to the Italian sports car manufacturer’s acclaim.

Although bearing the founder Enzo Ferrari’s name, the model designation is somewhat confusing – but is generally based on either the number of cylinders and/or the engine displacement for one or all cylinders (e.g. the 348 was a 3.4 litre V8). Whatever the model number, the world-famous “prancing horse” symbol identifies any Ferrari – with a rectangular badge sporting the black prancing stallion on a yellow shield on the bonnet of all road cars, usually with the letters SF (Scuderia Ferrari) and three stripes of green, white and red (the Italian national colours) at the top.
