Lando Norris – 2025 Formula 1 World Champion

After clinching his first Formula One world title, Lando Norris revealed he spent the final laps of Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix reflecting on the long, winding journey that brought him to the sport’s summit.

Speaking a day after sealing the championship with a third-place finish at Yas Marina, Norris described the emotional weight of the moment. His closest rival, Max Verstappen, won the race but ultimately fell two points short in the standings. The title fight had remained razor-close until the final round, with McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri—who had led the championship for much of the season—also in contention. Piastri finished third overall.

Lando Norris basked in his maiden Formula One world championship at the weekend, celebrating his triumph after the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

The 26-year-old McLaren driver described the moment as surreal, admitting he spent the final laps replaying memories from his earliest days in karting to the highs and lows of his seven years in Formula One.

Despite finishing third in the race, Norris secured the title by a slim two-point margin over Max Verstappen, who won the Grand Prix but fell short in the standings. The battle had stayed razor-close to the final round, with Norris’s teammate Oscar Piastri – who had led for much of the season – ultimately finishing third in the championship and their second manufacturer’s title in succession.

Norris admitted he partied with friends until 6 a.m. at the hotel, which overlooks the Yas Marina circuit, and spectacularly ended his night with a regret-laced Sausage McMuffin from McDonald’s.
The Briton showed nerves of steel in Abu Dhabi, making bold overtakes to secure the third-place finish he needed. But as the chequered flag approached, he confessed to uncertainty about how he would feel upon realizing a childhood dream.

As the 11th British driver to win an F1 title, Norris now joins an elite club – but was adamant that the fame wouldn’t change who he is. He insisted the external trappings of success would not alter his approach to life or racing.

His path to the championship wasn’t smooth. Last season, Norris had mounted a late but unsuccessful challenge to Verstappen, a campaign that McLaren team principal Andrea Stella identified as a key developmental milestone. According to Stella, it was during that stretch that Norris began to realize: “I can compete with Max.”

This season, Norris struggled with a lack of front grip in the car’s early iterations, costing him especially in qualifying. During that period, Piastri surged ahead in the standings, delivering a series of impressive performances. But mid-season upgrades, particularly to the front suspension, brought a turning point for Norris, restoring the confidence and control he needed.

Stella emphasized that Norris’s response to the difficult start was a defining feature of his championship run.
“It was the start of a process which was structured, holistic,” he explained, citing improvements across driving, mindset, and racecraft. “It makes me particularly glad that Lando could capitalise on this… I’ve not necessarily seen this level of development before – either in terms of effort or the speed at which it happened.”

Charles Leclerc’s Barcelona Test Cut Short Due To Hamilton’s Crash

Hamilton Crash at Barcelona Forces Ferrari to Cancel Charles Leclerc’s Test Session

Charles Leclerc’s: Ferrari’s testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was disrupted on Wednesday, January 29th, after Lewis Hamilton suffered a significant crash around 11 a.m. The incident occurred on Hamilton’s second day of testing in Barcelona and his third-ever day testing with Ferrari F1 cars. While the crash was a setback, the team described it as “perfectly normal” at this stage of pre-season testing, as Hamilton continues to familiarize himself with the limits of the Ferrari SF-23.

The crash took place at turn 12, where Hamilton lost control of the car, sending it into the barriers. The impact caused extensive damage to the car’s suspension and aerodynamic components. After the crash, Hamilton was able to exit the car unscathed before it was recovered and taken to the pit lane for repairs. The team immediately began working on the necessary repairs, but the damage proved to be too severe to complete the work in time for Leclerc’s scheduled afternoon session. As a result, Charles Leclerc was unable to complete any laps on the day.

Repairs continued throughout the afternoon and into the evening, lasting until sunset. By then, Leclerc had already left the venue without having driven the car. This incident marked another setback in Leclerc’s pre-season preparations, as he had also experienced an incomplete practice earlier in the month. On January 22nd, during testing at Ferrari’s Fiorano circuit, Leclerc’s session was cut short due to adverse weather conditions. He completed only 14 laps in total, whereas Hamilton managed 30 laps on his first day of testing.

Despite the challenges, Ferrari has chosen not to adjust their testing schedule, and the team is sticking to their plan as the season approaches. Leclerc has not publicly commented on the disruption to his pre-season testing, though it’s clear that these interruptions have been less than ideal for the Monegasque driver. With the season just around the corner, the pressure is on to make up for lost time and ensure everything is ready for the first race of the year.

As for Hamilton, the crash is seen as a normal part of the learning process, and both he and the team are focused on using the incident as an opportunity to better understand the car’s behavior and adjust their setup moving forward. With pre-season testing now behind them, both drivers will be eager to get back on track and prepare for the start of the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Birthplace of the F1 Championship

The British Grand Prix at Silverstone is indeed one of the most significant events in the Formula 1 championship. It holds a rich history, being the first-ever Grand Prix in the championship back in 1950. The race has been held at the Silverstone circuit since then, making it a traditional and iconic venue for Formula 1.

The Historic Silverstone Circuit

The Silverstone circuit is located in Northamptonshire, England. Originally built as the outer perimeter road for RAF Silverstone in 1942. It became a race track in 1947 and has since undergone several modifications to improve safety and enhance the racing experience. The track consists of three main sections, including two DRS (Drag Reduction System) zones and a speed trap.

The race itself consists of 52 laps around the 5.891-kilometer circuit, covering a total race distance of 306.198 kilometers. The lap record at Silverstone is currently held by Max Verstappen. A remarkable time of 1:27.097, averaging a speed of 151 mph.
